Exercise 1 : Composition

Controls: Mouse to look

The assignment was to compose a scene that communicates something about you using a camera, light(s), and 2D + 3D elements.

I decided to go with making a self-portrait and see how I could get those forms out of Unity's default 3D elements. I've been enjoying a lot of illustrations with more dramatic perspectives so I tried replicating something to that effect with the skewed camera placement. To further exaggerate that perspective, I brought the hand into view where the portrait is interacting with the frame.

I placed a couple lights through the scene to both hide the absence of a background, and highlight the main geometry of the character, like the eyes and pointing finger. After posing the lights, I added a bit more playfulness with using the mouse to nudge the camera a bit, giving the player a more active role in observing. (though interaction wasn't necessary for this assignment)

I decided to leave the z-fighting from the geometry intersecting in since I feel it adds to a sort of handmade charm in 3D real-time art.
